Winchester

Packing is taking place, along with a large amount of labelling. Jake is off tomorrow morning to the outward bound centre along with the rest of his year group from school. We are dropping him off mid morning tomorrow, and then will be picking him up on Friday lunchtime.

The packing list is rather long - just as well that everything is going into a roll along bag - I'm not sure whether Jake will be able to lift it.

We've been to Winchester today, and it was fantastic to see everyone. We had a lovely lunch at Loch Fine, after which we headed back to Mum and Dad's for a while before wending our way home.

N, J and I made it to Winchester with a bit of time to spare before lunch, and so had a little wander into town. Having recently read this post of Kate's I made a quick detour into the cathedral to take a few photos. One of her correspondents was asking why Canute's bones were in a small box. There are actually six boxes, each one sat on top of a screen like the one below:

The boxes aren't that small - maybe about five feet long, and spread amongst them are the bones of six kings, one queen and two bishops. I don't think that anyone is too sure whose bones are in which box(es). Mum tells me it is probably Henry VIII's fault!

As promised yesterday, this time last year we were enjoying our first day in San Francisco. We were up before the crack of dawn thanks to the jet lag, and ended up taking the very first open top bus tour of the day which took us around the city and across the bridge. It was cold up top!
